DIY Skating with Vans & Spitfire
Earlier this year, Vans and Spitfire collaborated on shoes, gear and some DIY skate spots in San Francisco and Los Angeles. The spots look awesome and as you can see (if you watch the videos) it can come together pretty quick.
Watch San Francisco.
Watch Los Angeles.
If you’re interested in building your own skate spot, follow these simple steps from Vans X Spitfire:
First thing you need to do is find a place that could use some concrete.Try to find a place that can’t easily be seen. Make sure there is water nearby. Clean water is best, but puddles and salt water will do.
The Crew
You’re gonna need at least one soldier who’s down, but more than 5 could attract unwanted attention. This will get you busted before you’re even finished. Swear yourselves to secrecy and get to work.
The Money
Okay, put up your lunch funds. First off, you don’t need much, $20 each will get you far, $5 or $10 will get you somewhere. Concrete costs about $3 per bag. That’s really your only expense.
The Tools
What you’ll need: a couple of shovels, a bucket, gloves, a push broom, a dolly, different length 2×4’s, and trowels to shape and finish the concrete. The trowels are a vital small investment.
The Operation
Mix the concrete and water on the ground, place the mixed concrete where desired, use 2x4s and trowels to shape and finish the concrete. As far as getting it to not look like a turd, it’s up to you. Start small.
The Code
Be stealth. Don’t be seen or heard. Don’t tell anyone what you’re doing and don’t leave a trace. Camouflage your spot to blend in, follow these steps while skating and it may last even longer.
The Mission
Skate your spot before it gets torn down. They usually all do. Good thing is, you can always make more. Now Build!
