Brooklyn: A Hotspot for Female Skaters
It’s no secret that New York, with its endless amounts of concrete, is a sweet spot for skaters. But, did you know that Brooklyn specifically is known for having some of the most creative and driven female skaters? Apparently they’re taking the place by storm. Bustin Boards’ female athletes Jenica Davenport, Nathalie Herring and Micku Murgolo collectively took first, second and third place at the 2010 Central Park Race , all completing the 6.7 mile loop in under 30 minutes and beating most guys!
“For us, it’s all about supporting skating, and we love to see that there are girls out there who rip and enjoy skating,” says Homage COO Dante Yore. “Beyond that, I think it’s good for our shop to actually have a female presence in skateboarding. Some of the girls on our team are better than the guys. You open up a [skate] magazine and you don’t hardly ever see girl skaters, so I think it’s good for us to showcase that and point it out to the skate community – to show that it’s open to everyone.”
